Dia de los Muertos
31st October 2011

Every year on the 1st and 2nd of November, Mexico celebrates Dia de los Muertos. This has to be my favourite day of celebration after Christmas and much better than Halloween. One year we were lucky enough to be in Merida in November and the amount of skulls, skeletons and colour was just amazing – not to mention the tacos, huevos rancheros, tequila, the people and all the craziness that goes with it.
I miss Mexico.

How cool are these paper cameras? Jennifer Collier is a British artist specialising in re-creating household items by stitching, bonding and waxing paper together.
The detail and thought gone into the various sections is lovely.

Nest Learning Thermostat
25th October 2011

Whoever knew climate-control could be sexy?
Thankfully, Tony Fadell, the man behind the invention of the iPod did and as a result we now have the gorgeous Nest Learning Thermostat. This little product is not only pretty, it also contains software that analyses and tracks your energy usage. Over time it learns to predict your energy needs and starts adjusting itself to work with your lifestyle. Amazingly, it’s this intuitive programming that can save you 30% – 40% off your energy costs.
Good for you + Good for the environment = Win
Have a watch of the video should you need any extra convincing.

Merry Pantone

Swoon. Christmas is coming folks and I would decorate our tree in 50 of these Pantone Xmas Balls if I could. Although I wonder if they might look a little cooler flipped? White on the top, colours on the bottom?

Club Silencio
21st October 2011

I’ve just been reading about Club Silencio in Paris, designed by David Lynch.
When asked what appealed to him most about creating a real club, Lynch replied: “The idea of designing something and making a mood that was warm and safe, where a person could feel good just sitting and being in the space.” Hidden away under 142 rue Montmartre, the opulent rooms remind me of the darkness in Mulholland Drive and the eeriness of Fire Walk With Me.
I’m not sure about warm and safe but definitely an experience, if nothing less!

Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011
21st October 2011

Every year I love going to see the Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award. Not only are the photographs breathtaking, the stories behind the shots are often just as incredible.
This super cute photo of a baby snub-nose monkey won French photographer Cyril Rouso runner-up in the endangered wildlife category. Check out the other winners here.
The exhibition runs until next March at the Natural History Museum in London and the International tour hits the Iziko Museum in Cape Town on December 6th.

I’ve always always wanted a Kay Bojesen Monkey. I nearly bought one for the lovely S! years ago and I wish I had now. Designed in 1951, he’s been beautifully and perfectly made and I think he’s just awesome.
Maybe a baby nephew present?
