Monday Music
30th April 2012

Going with a bit of a minimal, electronic vibe this week. Enjoy.
Vladislav Delay – Whistleblower.
A little bit dirtier and darker than Ele, Amima but still very good.
Agoria, Impermanence.
Chilled and different. Very, very nice.
Resident Advisor, Synkro.
59.29 minutes of sweet beats.
Claude VonStroke, At the Controls.
Yes please.
Behance Me Up | Happy Friday
27th April 2012

Can I just say how proud I am of myself for finally sitting down and adding some projects to my Behance profile? It’s been on my list of teux-deux’s for about 12 months. Tick.
Any feedback or comments would be most greatly appreciated.
Happy Friday dudes!
(PS. my amazing mouthful of neon LOVE comes from Charlies Bakery…Mmmm)
10 Violet Street
27th April 2012

I was doing a bit of research into Etsy after I bought a bag from a Canadian seller last month and Etsy wouldn’t ship it to SA.
What I did discover is that there’s actually Etsy South Africa (with 159 sellers!) and some great finds like this ceramic BirdBoy plaque by Cape Town based 10 Violet Street.
Mr P
27th April 2012

I just stumbled across this awesome Mr P Lick Mug. He’s rude and endearing at the same time – I love it.
Hammacher Schlemmer
27th April 2012

A solar powered iPad case that charges your iPad while it’s inside. Oh, it also comes with a stand, a USB port for charging other devices and a built-in HDMI output to connect to an HDTV. Yes please.

Sneak Peek
26th April 2012

I’ve always been a massive Peeping Tom. I absolutely love looking through people’s windows when I’m walking down the street to see what their front rooms look like and it usually ends with Si dragging me away. These days there are so many awesome sites that let me spy into people’s homes and lives and get up close and personal with everything from the bathroom to the bedroom sheets – all from the comfort of my own computer. Yay!
Here’s a few of my favourite sites for awesome home inspiration.
Slanted Mansion
“A deep interest in emerging and established creatives and inspiration arriving from other non-styled, creative interior blogs and books…”
we-are-awesome-spaces
This is how the creatives roll in Cape Town.
The Glow
Can these woman be any more stylish? Wow.
DesignSponge
Cute, quirky and colourful sneak peaking.
Alice Stirling Design
The posts are a little few and far between, but when they do come they’re always awesome.
(How amazing is the tablecloth in the image above?)
This is Oregon
26th April 2012

Julian Bialowas is the guy whose work you’ve probably seen a million times before – whether it was posted on someone’s wall, sent to you in an email or you found it pinned a thousand times on Pinterest. There’s something about his photographs overlaid with quotes that are quietly beautiful and always inspiring.
His latest project This is Oregon launched a couple of days ago and is a collaboration with Shwood Eyewear (you know those super awesome wooden glasses?) It’s aim is to inspire people to get outside and explore Oregon, but I think his images and quotes are inspiration to everyone, wherever they are in the world.
Be Bold.

Windrider Reflective Bicycle Clips
26th April 2012

These Windrider Bike Clips are too cool for school.
Pigeon Toe + Shanna Murray
25th April 2012

These Good Together stacked porcelain pots by Shanna Murray for Pigeon Toe are too sweet.
They’d make a super cute wedding gift, although you’d have to be organised as they’re made to order and take 3 weeks to get delivered.
Flèches
25th April 2012

These plant flèches (or arrows) by French studio Normal Studio are great.
Designed in collaboration with ENO (Editor of New Objects) – a curated collection of beautiful, useful everyday objects – you can purchase them here.
Themis Mobile
25th April 2012

I love mobiles and this one is pretty awesome.
Designed by Clara von Zweigbergk a Stockholm designer and illustrator, the Themis Mobile is inspired by the polyhedron solid but it’s shapes are actually made of hollow paper which allows it to move lightly in the breeze. Beautiful.
EVOL
24th April 2012

…and while we’re on the theme of street art…
I thought I’d share with you some shots I took last month at Smithfields in London of some work by EVOL.
A Berlin based street artist, EVOL transforms electricity boxes, concrete blocks and boxes into miniature tower blocks and estates. I nearly walked right past these little buildings, but after I’d done a double take and went back I found a whole area of construction blocks metamorphosed into a Peckham Estate.
Mehmet Ali Uysal
24th April 2012

Of course. Giant Peg by Turkish artist and sculptor Mehmet Ali Uysal, exhibited in Chaudfontaine Park in Belgium.

Rona Green
24th April 2012

These screenprinted, linocut, etched and woodcut illustrations by Australian artist Rona Green are amazing. Her tattooed, moustachioed, bad-ass animals are making me laugh this morning.
How cool are they?
Quentin Jones: Naked with Paint
23rd April 2012
I thought this stop motion short film by British illustrator and artist Quentin Jones was awesome. Quirky and dark and it helps that she’s so pretty!

F. Scott Fitzgerald
23rd April 2012

In keeping with the loose geometric theme I’ve got going on, these F. Scott Fitzgerald covers by Coralie Bickford-Smith are gorgeous.
Have a look over on Penguin for the entire collection.
Yeah Just There
23rd April 2012

More geometric sexiness by Grant Orchard from London based Studio AKA.
Yeah Just There is a video promo for Orchard’s iPad wallpaper set and has similarities with Geometric Porn.
Both were initially rejected by Apple on the grounds they were too ‘sexy’, but after Orchard changed Yeah Just There’s app description from ‘If you squint your eyes and look long enough, all this becomes intensely erotic’ to ‘A little bit of this and that,’ and resubmitted it. A couple of months later it passed. Hmmm.

Monday Music
23rd April 2012

Here’s a Monday Music Neon collection to help you start your week.
Jack Johnson and Friends – Best of Kokua Festival.
Eddie Vedder, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, Ziggy Marley, yes please.
Gotye, Like Drawing Blood.
There are some cool tunes on here with similar (and catchy) melodies to Somebody that I used to know.
Flying Lotus, Cosmogramma.
More Warped goodness.
Tortoise, Beacons of Ancestorship.
Awesome all-day every-day music.
Happy (belated) Earth Day
23rd April 2012

Yesterday was Earth Day, the one day of the year we’re all supposed to stop and appreciate the earth (although it should be everyday really).
This planet panorama image was created by Greek photographer Chris Kotsiopoulos using 30 hours of photographs taken from sunrise to sunset in Sounio, Greece. Does it make you appreciate our planet?

The White Deers
20th April 2012

I love these sweet illustrations by Hong Kong illustrator (she lives in Fanling!) Peony Yip.
Check out her Tumblr blog The White Deers for more beautiful, wispy illustrations.
Lotus War | James Jean x OVM
20th April 2012

Flowers and neon leak from a cracked skull in James Jean’s Lotus War scarf for OVM.
This Limited Edition scarf is unfortunately now sold out, but I couldn’t help posting such a cool design, packaged so beautifully.
For more psychedelic goodness, check out his Lotus War Pyramid Poster here.
