Polpo: A Venetian Cookbook (Of Sorts)
5th February 2014
In the new year we spent a night in Venice and oh my god, wow. It was breathtaking and I fell in love. With only 24 hours we walked and ate, and walked and drank espresso, and walked and ate gelato and walked and walked and walked. And took a million photos.
So Polpo is essentially a Venetian bàcaro but in London, with locations in Soho, Covent Garden and Smithfields. We visit the Smithfields one every time we’re in town and the sexy decor, combined with food to die for makes it one of our favourite places.
Anyway – I thought it would be a good idea to get Si the Polpo recipe book for Christmas, which turned out to be a great idea actually. He cooked from it on Saturday night and everything was delicious. The book itself is not only beautiful: printed on gorgeous paper with a lovely chain bound spine … it includes all of the recipes we love too. Hooray!
It also has a whole section on awesome cafes in Venice which we unfortunately didn’t realise while we were there. Oh well. We can reminisce over Arancini and Pork and Fennel Meatballs at home instead ;)
