Nathalie Pirotte

10th August 2012

Nathalie Pirotte makes paintings that are sublime. Sexy girls collaged together with animal heads and flowers are my kind of art.

Surreal and beautiful. I absolutely love them. (Can you tell? I couldn’t choose which ones to include so I’ve pretty much added them all!)

A sweet thank you to Hannah for also pointing me in the direction of the The Jealous Curator. Endless amount of awesome art – be sure to check it out here.

Thanks Han x

I heart Eggs

3rd August 2012

Anyone that knows me, knows how much I love eggs … like really love eggs, alot. Eating them makes me happy and Huevos Rancheros are my favourite.

I don’t usually put recipes on BTN, but as I was checking out Livestrong this morning and got distracted (and inspired) by some egg recipes, I thought I would share … and also because it’s Friday and eggs are always best on the weekend!

Baked Eggs
Crack two eggs in a small, ovenproof ramekin. Top with finely chopped vegetables and a splash of milk. Bake until whites are set but yolks are still runny enough for dipping. Enjoy with wholemeal toasted soldiers.

Deviled Eggs

Deviled eggs are a new one for me and even though they look like bad 80s canapés, I bet they taste amazing.

6 eggs, hard boiled, peeled
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 tsp yellow mustard
3/4 tsp white wine vinegar
salt, pepper, paprika

Cut eggs in half. Arrange egg whites cut side up on a serving plate and put the yolks in a small mixing bowl. Mash yolks and mix in mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, salt, pepper. Spoon mixture into each egg white half, dividing evenly. Sprinkle eggs with smoked paprika if desired. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Not only does this Israeli recipe have an awesome name, I haven’t tried it before either! 2 egg firsts for me today!

2 eggs
1 tsp oil
1/4 chopped red onion
1 can fire roasted tomatoes
1-2 tablespoons garlic pesto (or just use some crushed garlic + basil)

Heat the oil, add onions and saute. Add tomatoes, pesto and simmer for a few minutes. Make two indentations in the sauce and carefully break the eggs into them. Cover and cook for a few minutes till the egg whites are cooked through, but the yolks are still soft.

The awesome still life shots at the top are by photographer Annabelle Breakey. She takes the most beautiful photographs of food and you can check out more of her work here.

I’m going to make Deviled Eggs and Shakshuka this weekend. Yay!

Hope you all have a happy and egg-citing weekend.

*Sorry, couldn’t help myself*

Medal Count

2nd August 2012

Medal Count is an awesome site by Animal that lets you keep track of Medals for the Olympics.

It has a nifty little interface, you can add your 4 most favourite countries onto your watch list (come on Hong Kong!) and they’ve even included a schedule of what’s on so you don’t miss anything. I like!

3191 Miles Apart

18th May 2012

I’ve been a fan of  Maria and Stephanie’s 3191 Miles Apart projects since I discovered them a few years ago.

In 2007 they started a blog, 3191: A Year of Mornings with each woman posting a photograph from their respective locations (Portland, Maine and Portland, Oregon) every morning.

Simple and sweet, their styles compliment each other perfectly and since then they’ve done other projects, including 3191: A Year of Evenings and more recently began publishing 3191 Quarterly.

Anyhoo, Issue No. 7 is now for sale and if you feel like buying it before midnight on Monday, you’ll get yourself a discount.

3rd May 2012

I found this amazing painted Tequila bottle over on Bangers and Nash, a cool CT blog run by Bangers and Nash no less, featuring sexy girls, cool things going on around town and random tumblr images that are always pretty good.

Check it out here.

Anna Tovar

23rd March 2012

Anna Tovar’s beautiful journals made me very happy this afternoon, as did her baby’s awesome nursery.

This Wild Idea

14th March 2012

This Wild Idea is a photography project by Theron Humphrey, a photographer from Georgia who’s now on Day 226 of his 365 Day drive around America.

Using photography as a way of connecting with people, Humphrey began a year long trip with the aim of meeting 1 new person every day and telling their story.

His photographs are beautiful, solem and tell the stories of these people exquisitely.

Also worth checking out is his very cool blog Maddie On Things.

2nd December 2011

I just found the swissmiss store up and running and this awesome Bookbow print by Paul Octavious. Yay!

Happy Friday everyone!

Creative Spaces

11th November 2011

Design Milk article Defining The Designer was an interesting read this morning. I find it fascinating looking at other people’s creative workspaces.

For more inspired creative spaces take a look at Cape Town’s We-Are-Awesome blog that has a section called Spaces.

Sixty Years of Memories

11th October 2011

I love this project by Nothing but Bonfires. For her dad’s 60th birthday she asked all his family, friends and loved ones to write down a memory they had of him and collected 60 of them together.

I hope someday somebody makes something like this for me.

You Look Like The Right Type

31st August 2011

Every day Mark Addison Smith writes down pieces of conversations he hears and then illustrates them. He’s been doing it every day for the last two and a half years and posting them on his blog Amazing.

I wonder what happens when he goes on holiday?

To Do

26th August 2011

I just found a set of To Do lists over at Mrs. Easton and I don’t really know what else to say except wow! They were made by her brother and there’s loads of them. I think they look like pieces of art.

Here’s a screenshot of my Teux Deux app by Swissmiss as a comparison. Hmmm…maybe I need to go back to the old school. It seems a whole lot more fun, don’t you think? (although I love Teux Deux and it’s super pretty as well…)

Rainbow Clusters

14th July 2011

This cute illustration by Yasmine Surovec is exactly how my brain feels after a day of builders drilling on my roof and then having to mop up water dripping through my lights, caused by the holes they’re drilling up there. Yuk!

Check out more on her blog A Print A Day.

1st July 2011

I’ve just spent the better part of the last hour looking through the awesome blog Mini-eco.

It’s packed with super cool craft projects for kids (& adults) and is so colourful and fun I just want to ditch work to go home and get crafty! Be sure to check out these amazing garden bird feeders

How to steal like an artist (and 9 other things nobody told me)

18th May 2011

This article is based on a talk made by Texas writer and artist, Austin Kleon about 10 things he wish he’d heard while in college.

How to steal like an artist (and 9 other things nobody told me) is enlightening in the way that it reinforces the fact that we know this stuff already. It’s common sense. It reminds us of the important things to remember when working creatively, because it’s easy to get a little lost occasionally.

1st April 2011

How cute is Emersonmade? I want every pair of jean she’s designed, especially the BlueBell ones and I found this UnGloomBloom on her blog. Too cool.

This made me happy on a Friday afternoon.

Clouds 365

13th October 2010

I haven’t posted anything in a while, partly because I’ve been busy and partly because I’ve been uninspired. This amazing site caught my eye though and so here you go…

Cloud 365 is a website & blog that’s updated daily with a new photo or video of a cloud. When the skies are clear or the day is grey, multi-media artist Kelly DeLay gets all creative to bring us a cloud. Super cool.
