Elephants’ Graveyard
28th June 2011

Continuing with my obsession for all things letterpressed is this very cool poster by Richard Ardagh of Elephants’ Graveyard. It reminds me of when I used to listen to Counting Crows. Buy it here.
(This week I’m meeting Gitanjali from The Letterpress Company here in Cape Town to talk about some letterpress invitations. Can’t wait – will let you know how it goes…)
Emil Kozak

My favourite illustrator in the whole world, Emil Kozak has just launched his new site. For a little bit of vector heaven check it out here.
Adhemas Batista
21st April 2011

I was forwarded on the link to Adhemas Batista’s site yesterday.
Although it’s a little annoying to navigate, the colours and graphics more than make up for it and I love that he’s ‘selling colours’ - Yeehar!
(thanks Kerry)
Design Chat
5th April 2011

I only recently discovered Design Chat – a weekly video and text-based conversation for the creative community, and I have to say it’s rather good. All the podcasts are available to download on iTunes and it’s so cool to listen to how other people work and how they came to be doing what they’re doing today.
I’m still trying to catch up with them all, but last night I finally got around to listening to the über-talented (and very sweet) Jessica Hische talk about how she got into type and illustration which was great, and I’ve also listened to the insanely-inspiring Swiss Miss chat (my hero!) and next on my list is Eight Hour Day.
Eight Hour Day
4th April 2011

I just found this beautiful logo by Minneapolis design and illustration studio Eight Hour Day.
Very cool.
Dokter and Misses
4th April 2011

I’ve been seeing Dokter and Misses pieces around Cape Town more and more lately and De Wildt is the name of the ceramic line they design. Lovely.
They remind me of all the cool jars and pots my Nana has from the 70s. I’d like one of everything please.
Owwwwwwwwl
4th March 2011

I want one in every colour! These owls by Matt Pugh are making me craaaaazy!
(thankyou Guy)
Design Indaba ♥
3rd March 2011
I had a cool time looking around Design Indaba last Saturday. There are some really talented people working out here in South Africa and often it’s for a great cause which rocks.
The only thing I’m not so into is the ‘cuteness’ of a lot of the design here. There seems to be a bit of a trend with ceramic hearts and all things sweet which isn’t very London rock n’ roll.
That said though, I did find some cool stuff – so here are a few of my favourite things from Design Indaba 2011.
Enjoy.

Mingo Lamberti
They’ve got a sweet website and their collections have names like ‘The Made in China Range” and “The Death Range” which is cool. It’s even better that their collaborative t-shirt designs rock as well. I want one in every design for the amazing S! please.

Sootcookie Ceramics
I know, it’s cute ceramic stuff but I couldn’t resist buying one of these ‘paper’ planes. “Sootcookie ceramics” derives its name from the Afrikaans word meaning “sweet biscuit…” Enough said – but Tanya Laing’s work is actually pretty cool and she makes an amazing range of quirky animals.

Ikhaya
Loved these little guys which are carved from fallen Jacaranda trees.

Justin Southey
This quirky South African illustrator had some great work on display. He had some super cute kids mobiles made up of wooden characters that were fun and I thought his style was unique and unusual.

Papillon Belle
Oh Oh Oh. I wanted to take home the entire collection from Papillon Belle! These butterfly necklaces are handmade from sustainable butterfly wings and are sourced from places like Madagascar and Indonesia. The colours and textures in the wings were incredible and the settings were made beautifully as well. Yes please!
AMS Part Deux

Ooo oo oo oo oo oo OO oo oo oo OO AMS Part II … I’m h-o-l-d-i-n-g my breath …
Happy Friday Lynnda Needles & Danny Sangra!
Sweet As Pie
4th November 2010
This fun stencil pie kit was designed by cool British product designer Emma Wall and is now being sold on JamieOliver.com (we ♥ Jamie)!
What a perfect christmas present for a Masterchef-inspired loved one!

Martín Satí GraphicWorkshop
2nd September 2010
Martín Satí is an amazingly talented illustrator and designer from Spain. His graphics are complex and beautiful and make me want to be a better designer.
I’d love to see what they’d look like lazer cut, like Claudia Ongaro mandala in yellow.

Design Lagoon
16th August 2010
One of my best friends has just started up his own creative agency, Design Lagoon. Steve’s a kick ass designer who’s worked with everyone from MTV to Osiris, as well as starting up his own clothing lines, Soul Dive and Drool.
If anyone wants a little skaterboy design charm, give him a shout…

AMS @ DSM
23rd July 2010
Hooray! My favourite knitwear label AMS have just gone and got their first collection stocked at Dover Street Market.
Danny Sangra’s bold, graphic prints combined with the exquisite knit designs of the lovely Lynnda Needles make up their colourful 2010 Collection. The bright cardigans, jumpers and socks are amazing and the blankets are simply beautiful (yes please!) … and if that’s not enough, their look book was shot by the über-talented Miss Yael Fachler.
Watch this space – these guys are going far.

Neon Friday
16th July 2010
To round off a week of letters I found this amazing neon light alphabet by Berlin designers, Bank.
I love it because it’s neon and because the entire alphabet is made from a single piece of tube. How amazing! Depending on how you hold it, depends on which letter of the alphabet you create. Design genius at it’s best.

Typo Thursday
15th July 2010
Today’s type is a poster by one of my all time favourite designers, Emil Kozak. Über-talented and creative, this is from The Ramones Saved My Life exhibition.
