Uimi

24th October 2014

I’ve been having a bit of thing for knitted things recently (which is slightly bad timing seeing as we’re heading into 6 months of 30• Cape Town summer days and nights) but that’s ok. I can still look and well, knitted cushions are good all year round, right?

Uimi is a Melbourne based knit studio and I am absolutely loving the colours and patterns on their homeware collection.

Their online store is set to open soon and in the meantime you can find other online stockists of Uimi here.

Suzelle DIY

15th September 2014

I heart Suzelle!

I found one of Suzelle’s DIY videos this afternoon and I haven’t been able to stop watching her.

Her DIY tips are funny, inspiring and (somewhat surprisingly) useful. I’ve been laughing all afternoon!

One of my favourites – How to peel a lot of apples.

Love it.

Bib&Sola

9th September 2014

I’ve had a bit of a thing for carafé sets recently, after picking up an amazing little vintage set while we were in France.

This Ash set in white by London store Bib&Sola is also pretty special.

Wishbone Wall Hook

3rd February 2014

How sexy is this Wishbone Wall Hook by Brooklyn store Lief?

It’s also available in gold if you want a little extra luck.

I Wish We Had Ikea

22nd November 2013

Today I’m missing Ikea and all it’s weirdly named furniture.

This Karlstad couch + armchair would look great in the warehouse…

Mister Moss

15th November 2013

Oh my!

I’ve been seeing hanging plants more and more often over the last few months and I think they’re great.

In Cape Town we have Opus but if you live in Melbourne you can order one of these Fibonacci Stands, complete with hanging Lemon Tree from Mister Moss.

How cool is he?

Hoi P’loy

8th November 2013

Eek I’m too excited!

So here’s the deal. We finally bought some coloured cord and this weekend I’ll be making some pendent lights. Yay!

After fretting because the coloured cord company I found in the States didn’t ship overseas and the one in London had rubbish colours, I eventually discovered an even better company right here in the Mother City.

Hoi P’loy is a small, but awesome studio specialising in vintage light bulbs and fabric covered electrical cable. They have a massive range of amazing colours, lots of fittings and accessories and their lightbulbs are just beautiful.

Oh, and their packaging is letterpressed. Seriously. Letterpressed packaging.

I am so in love with this brand — along with our Emerald, Beetroot and B/W Zigzag cord. Yippee!

Stay tuned for more light updates…

Wave Mug

6th November 2013

Cape Town Summer is on the way which means weekends at the beach and coffee in the morning on the balcony.

This Wave Mug would be perfect, don’t you think?

** Even though it’s made in Staffordshire, just down the road from Si’s nan’s house in the UK!

Wooden Wall Hook

1st November 2013

Another DIY to add to my list. These would be simple to make with the right pieces.

These cute ceramic cloudy plates over on The Handmade Lover come in 4 beautiful colours.

I’d love one of each to hold my jewellery bits and bobs!

Pumpkin Love

31st October 2013

I feel a little bit cheated every October because buying pumpkins to decorate at Halloween just doesn’t work in Cape Town. Wrong hemisphere, wrong season, I get it.

This year I didn’t even try to find one so I’ve been admiring other people’s instead. Here are some of my favourites…

Studded Pumpkins

Painted Pumpkins

Ombre Pumpkin

Pantone Pumpkin

Chalk Pumpkins

This was the last pumpkin we made. Doraemon – Hong Kong stylee.

Happy Halloween

31st October 2013

In the spirit of Halloween I thought I’d share this 2000 year old skeleton mosaic discovered in the doomed city of Pompeii.

It’s thought to have once been the emblema (which is an ornate floor centrepiece) of a dining room and a reminder that one day we will all be dead and so we should eat, drink and be merry while we can, or ‘memento mori’ – meaning literally ‘remember that you will die’ in Latin.

Skeleton images were found all over Pompeii, in frescos, mosaics, sculptures and tableware, as a reminder to ‘seize the day’ and live life to the full, since death could be just around the corner.

Spooky.

(Thanks Cellandia)

Weekend DIY / Hanging Airplants

18th October 2013

If I get some time in between more unpacking this weekend, I want to try to make some of these awesome hanging airplants for our kitchen.

What a pretty way of displaying our little Tillandsias … which are looped over racks on the wall and looking a bit sad at the moment!

Check out the DIY project on Design Sponge.

Jesper Ståhl Stockholm Cutlery

17th October 2013

I am totally in love with this cutlery set by Jesper Ståhl for Design House Stockholm.

Beautiful.

O Table

15th October 2013

Lot Modern’s upcycled surfboard O Table is pretty awesome.

I know Si would love one.

Cable Lights

15th October 2013

These Cable Lights by designer Patrick Hartog are beautiful, plus the design is quite clever as you can adjust their height to suit.

If you feel like getting your hands dirty though there’s a great tutorial on Brit&Co on how to make something similar yourself. I suspect if you used the right bottle as a mould they would work out great. Concrete Pendant Lights tutorial here.

** Did you notice the awesome coloured cord on the Cable Lights? Love it!

Blu Dot

21st August 2013

This little guy would look great in any room. I especially love his legs.

Colour Cord

19th August 2013

Be still my neon heart.

If you read my blog a lot, you’ll know I have a thing for pendant lights. Everyone seems to be jumping on the pendent bandwagon – and why not when these lights are so awesome?

Even Yuppiechef has added Muuto’s pendent lights to their site.

While searching for DIY projects for our new flat (we have no ceiling lights on the mezzanine level) I stumbled upon these coloured electrical cords by Color Cord Company and they are currently at #1 my DIY list. My dream of pendent lights in our bedroom may come true after all. Hooray!

I’m just waiting to hear back if they’ll ship outside the US … (fingers crossed!) … and if they do, the dilemma of choosing colours begins!

Signe Yberg

16th August 2013

If only these Ceramic Cups by Signe Yberg came in some funkier colours, they would be winging their way to Cape Town as I type.

Still quite lovely though.
