This post is not really about Wunderlist vs TeuxDeux. It’s more about how sad I am that the folks at Teux Deux are now charging a subscription for their list making service.
I’ve been using TeuxDeux (the simple and beautiful brainchild of swissmiss) for a couple of years now. I started off on the web app, loved how simple it was to use and bought the iPhone app as soon as it was released. Recently they did some updates (great) and with them now comes a subscription fee (not great). They are offering 3 and 6 months free if you’re a previous TeuxDeux user, but after that it’ll cost you $3/month or $2/month if you pay for a year up front.
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a great app and I was more than happy to pay $2.99 for the iPhone app, however the prospect of being tied into a subscription for the privilege of list making does not get me excited and so last week I signed up to Wunderlist.
It’s not as simple or pretty as TeuxDeux, but it works well and pretty much does the same thing for free. I’ll give it a go and see how I get on … and if all else fails I think I’ll just go back to plain old fashioned list writing in my moleskine.

I saw my first Hellolulu bag when I was in Hong Kong at Christmas and fell in love with their simple but slick products. They come in an awesome selection of colours which totally adds to their cool too.
This Conn – Campus Backpack has a padded sleeve inside that’s the perfect size to carry a 15″ laptop. How tricky to choose a colour though! Blue with a green inside or purple with a blue inside?
Their funny little logo is also very cute and I’m digging the Happiness Manifesto on their website:
Happiness Manifesto – Chuck away unnecessary bulk and weight, add a dash of fresh color, a touch of delightful texture and sum it up with clever, creative designs, and you will get Hellolulu.

One Minute MBA map out 60 second visual concepts aimed at students studying online MBA courses.
There’s a bunch of bunch of them ranging from How Millionaires Go Broke to Money Laundering.
How to Design Like Apple is their latest video and worth a 60 second watch. Even if you’re not into Apple – watching the concept illustrated is cool enough on it’s own.

Charlie Sorrel had a good rant about these Lazerwood Keys over on Cult of Mac, but I think they’re quite beautiful.
They also do a rather nice selection of wooden iPhone covers. Much better (and somehow cheaper?) than the rubbish plastic covers we had delivered from Society6.

Too bad this Three River MacBook Case by The Good Flock only comes in 13″…

As of 9pm last night, I am now the proud owner of an awesome new MacBookPro!
I was so excited to open it up! Half the fun is unwrapping such a beautiful product and the attention to detail is second to none. The sweet guy that helped us gave me a Personal Setup invite and this little card made me sigh. It’s quite simply perfection on paper.

Yes please to this rather lovely Neon Laptop Sleeve also.

Colour plays such a natural role in our everyday lives, I think it’s sometimes easy to almost forget about. On a flight to London once, I sat next to a doctor who had spent his whole life studying eyes and the affects of colour deficiency in people (and it affects a LOT of people – around 1 in 12 people). Super interesting stuff.
This simple Colour Challenge is a geeky but fun way to see how well you perceive colour. Just drag and drop the swatches to rearrange them in the correct hue order. Magic.

We salute you Sir Ive.
For a very interesting read, check out his interview over on The Telegraph.

Oo oo oo. Geometric Porn by Luciano Foglia. Genius.
This sexy little app was rejected by Apple Inc. Why?
“Feb 1, 2012 05:47 PM Apple: Reasons for Rejection: 16.1: Apps that present excessively objectionable or crude content will be rejected. We found that many audiences would find your app concept objectionable, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.”
Shame! I love it!

If you’d like this as a print, a cover for your iPhone or iPad, on a tee, a hoodie (practically anything!) check out the very cool Society6 for all the options.

The fine folk over at Smashing Magazine have released their pick for February’s Desktop Wallpaper Calendar series.
Lots of very Valentine’s Day (read: Wedding!) appropriate ones. I like this one by Allison Brown.
Check out the rest here.

“Life is messy. Simplify with Clear.”
I’ve just been reading about a new To Do app called Clear. Don’t get me wrong, I love Teux Deux (the nifty little swissmiss To Do app) and use it on my computer all the time, but I never got around to sorting it out on my (very old and very slow) iPhone.
Clear looks even more simple than Teux Deux, and although some people are saying this app is before it’s time as it breaks a lot of current interface rules with no labels, icons or menus, for me it would be perfect. Just a bit long list in bright blocks of colour.
Have a watch of the video and see what you think.

I think I’m a little behind on this one, but these iPod Nano clock faces are cool. I love, love, love the Mickey Mouse one especially!

Our wedding is getting closer (39days 02hours 23minutes 06seconds according to Si’s Dashboard Countdown Widget - yikes!) so I’ve been busy designing cards, making signs and getting things finished.
My Baker’s Twine finally arrived in the post a couple of days ago and I love it. Si vetoed bunting from the beginning, but a little Baker’s Twine won’t go amiss! I might have to make it my new favourite thing for 2012 and order some more colours so I can wrap this year’s birthday presents in it.

I just found a set of To Do lists over at Mrs. Easton and I don’t really know what else to say except wow! They were made by her brother and there’s loads of them. I think they look like pieces of art.
Here’s a screenshot of my Teux Deux app by Swissmiss as a comparison. Hmmm…maybe I need to go back to the old school. It seems a whole lot more fun, don’t you think? (although I love Teux Deux and it’s super pretty as well…)

Not just a pretty app! Daisy Disk scans your computer and displays your content in beautiful and colourful interative maps, meaning you can easily find large useless files that you no longer need and get rid of them to create more space.
28GB of space freed up and I can’t stop clicking around it (and did I mention the awesome icon as well??)
